International Sister Cities
The City of Grapevine has partnered with four Sister Cities across the globe: Krems, Austria; Parras de la Fuente, Mexico; West Lothian, Scotland and Barossa, Australia. Each of the participating cities benefits from the program’s educational, professional and cultural exchanges. The exchanges allow tourism and travel professionals along with others in the community to share professional experiences and knowledge, benefiting all of the communities involved.
Parras de la Fuente, Mexico
The first Sister City agreement Grapevine established was with Parras de la Fuente. The Sister City Accord was signed in 1996. One of the things the two cities have in common is wine. Parras de la Fuente is home to the oldest winery in the Americas called Casa Madero which was established in 1597.
Krems, Austria
The second international city to enter into a Sister City agreement with Grapevine is Krems, Austria. The official accord between the two cities was signed in 1999. What's unique about Krems, is that it has a winemaking tradition dating beyond the Celtic Era.
West Lothian, Scotland
The third sister city to join the program is West Lothian, Scotland. The official Sister City Accord was signed in 2008. West Lothian shares a geographical similarity with Grapevine as it is located just north of the airport. West Lothian also has its own local farm called Almond Valley. Similar to Historic Nash Farm in Grapevine, it is filled with live animals and educational opportunities for anyone interested in visiting.
Barossa, Australia
Leaders from Grapevine and Barossa officially signed the Sister City Accord at the 37th annual GrapeFest on September 16, 2023. Barossa is one of the premier wine regions in Australia and the world. Its wine-making community dates back to the 1840s.
